[Foundations and Reformation. A comparative study on the transformation of the foundations in the imperial towns of Nuremberg and Ulm in the 16th and early 17th century]
The deeds of foundation and the testaments of the 16th and early 17th century give an important insight into the adoption of the reformational changes and the growing self-confidence of the townswomen and townsmen in terms of the “priesthood of all baptized”. This study examines the transformation of the medieval foundations considering the plurality of the Reformation. The religious arguments and the question in what way foundations might be described as gifts are focused in particular.
