TIMOTHY AND TITUS: On the Road for Paul
Today Paul is seen as the most important missionary in early Christianity. But Paul was not a lone warrior. He was assisted by numerous helpers, most important among them Timothy and Titus. This book gives details of their activities and responsibilities: They were asked by Paul to visit the communities he had founded, to transport letters, settle disputes, and convey his instructions. Three epistles from the time after Paul are dedicated to these two men (two to Timothy and one to Titus), expressing the importance they had for the transmission of Paul’s message. Yet their aftereffects are even more comprehensive: Their activities (as bishops of Ephesus and Crete) are narrated in legends; they are the subject of literary works; their mortal remains (relics) were the cause of dramatic events and are significant to this day (Termoli in Italy and Crete); in their function as patron saints they lend their names to churches to this day.
