To helb structuring the research field of humanitarian logistics this paper continues previous studies and provides a survey of the literature published between 2012 and 2014. We introduce an attribute based classification that extends existing schemes by taking the adressed logistic management processes into consideration. It is noticed that location, scheduling and routing problems receive particular attention although these problems are not viewed as substantial challenges for practitioners in humanitarian logistics operations. We further obtain empirical indication that short-term disaster relief is intensively investigated at the expense of continuous aid processes, that man-made disasters are largely disregarded in comparison with natural disasters, and that attention is paid much more to disaster response than to reconstruction. Moreover, essential management tasks like requirements planning, procurement and reverse logistics, are clearly understudied. Researcher might find these results useful to identify currently active streams of research in humanitarian logistics as well as academic voids.
