This volume publishes papers delivered at the Second International Conference on the Deuterocanonical Books (Pápa, Hungary). This conference dealt with the Books of the Maccabees. The volume contains articles on the textual forms, traditions, theology and ideology of the books, and demonstrates the books’ relationship with the contemporary literature of early Judaism.

Géza G. Xeravits, Ph.D. (2003) in Theology, University of Groningen, is Associate Professor of Old Testament at the Reformed Theological Academy, Pápa, Hungary. His main scholarly interest is the literature of the Qumran Community. He published King, Priest, Prophet. Positive Eschatological Protagonists of the Qumran Library (Brill, 2003).
József Zsengellér, Ph.D. (2003) in Theology, University of Utrecht, is Professor of Old Testament at the Reformed Theological Academy, Pápa, Hungary. His main scholarly interest is the literature of the Samaritans. His publications include Gerizim as Israel (Utrecht, 1998).
