[Introduction to the New Testament]
The scholarly discipline of the 'Introduction to the New Testament' is concerned with the history of the origin of the 27 New Testament books. As a result of the Enlightenment and the 'purely historical interpretation' – which methodically excludes God’s action in history – they are largely dated late, especially in German-speaking countries, and thus uprooted from their historical context in the lives of Jesus and the apostles. This late dating is questioned in the present book. Jewish and early church source texts as well as intertextual studies play a greater role in the present study than is often the case. This is intended to provide the basis for a broader understanding of the New Testament message. The book is designed to be understandable even for 'beginners of theology'.
