Unique in its depth of coverage and currency, Houseman's Law of Life Assurance has established a well-deserved reputation as an authoritative practitioner work on life assurance and is renowned for its practical insight into the workings of the industry.

In addition to being fully updated to take account of new legislation and case law the new 15th edition also covers developments including:

Significant structural changes to the UK regulatory framework since the 14th edition and in particular the creation of the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and the Financial Conduct Authority each with their own different statutory objectives;
Creation of the PRA and the introduction of a new rulebook with a different structure for conveying regulatory guidance;
Implementation of the Solvency II Directive which has made fundamental changes to the way insurers calculate their capital, invest their assets and govern their businesses;
Changes to insurance law on misrepresentation and warranties and the new duty on consumers to take reasonable care not to make a misrepresentation and on non-consumers to make a fair presentation of the risk;
New e-commerce chapter to reflect the growing importance of this distribution channel for life insurance products;
Anticipated changes to the regime applicable to insurance distribution because of the Insurance Distribution Directive and rules relating to packaged insurance investment contracts, including the impact on remuneration of intermediaries;
Changes to the UK compensation scheme for insurance policyholders.

John, Noleen
Noleen John is a corporate and regulatory insurance lawyer based in London, and a partner at Norton Rose Fulbright. Noleen has experience of most legal and regulatory issues relating to the day to day running and management of insurance companies. Noleen often advises in connection with the PRA's prudential requirements (which now include the Solvency II rules on capital and investments), the regulatory aspects of with profits business, outsourcing requirements, the sale of offshore insurance bonds and unfair terms in insurance contracts.

Murphy, Brian
Brian Murphy is Financial Planning Manager at AXA Wealth.

He joined the company from school and after being involved in a variety of roles in his early career, has spent the last 31 years delving into the murky world of UK personal taxation and trust law.

He writes regularly in the trade press on personal taxation and trust-related issues and also lectures widely to IFAs, solicitors and accountants on these subjects. He is the joint author of the 12th, 13th and 14th editions of Houseman and Davies' Law of Life Assurance and is the author of the 24th and 25th editions of the Life Assurance & Pensions Handbook. He is a member of the ABI Investment Product Tax Panel and the ABI FATCA Working Group as well as the TISA FATCA Working Group. He also sits on the EU Experts Group in Brussels which is looking into the possible extension of the EU Savings Directive to cover life assurance policies.

Brian is an enthusiastic, albeit distinctly average tennis player and much the same can be said about his golfing prowess. He is a keen supporter of Essex County Cricket Club, something which has given him a great deal of pleasure down the years, and an equally keen supporter of Leyton Orient, something which for almost 40 years, with a few notable exceptions, has generally given him very little pleasure indeed.

Brian is married and has twin daughters who he adopted from China in 2004. He lives just outside Chelmsford.
