Valerie Smith is Dean of the College, the WoodrowWilson Professor of Literature, and Professor of English andAfrican American Studies at Princeton University, USA. Her numerousawards include fellowships from the Alphonse G. FletcherFoundation, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the National Endowmentfor the Humanities. Smith is also the author of Self-Discovery and Authority in Afro-AmericanNarrative (1988) and Not Just Race, Not Just Gender: BlackFeminist Readings (1998).
