Dieser Band vereint Mozarts jugendliche Anläufe zu dieser später so zentralen Gattung des Streichquartetts: Das erstaunliche „Lodi“-Quartett KV 80 des erst Vierzehnjährigen, die gerne auch von Kammerorchestern gespielten drei „Quartett-Divertimenti“ KV 136–138 und den ersten veritablen Streichquartett-Zyklus Mozarts KV 155–160, der während seiner dritten (Nord-) Italienreise 1772/73 entstand. Zu allen Kompositionen haben sich die sauber geschriebenen Partituren Mozarts erhalten, so dass die Edition auf sicherer Grundlage steht. Wolf-Dieter Seiffert, der erfahrene Mozart-Herausgeber im G. Henle Verlag, widmet in seinem informativen Kritischen Bericht dem bekannten Artikulationsproblem „Punkt oder Strich“ einen eigenen, ausführlich erläuternden Abschnitt. Dieser Band wurde künstlerisch vom Armida-Quartett begleitet.
