What are the assumptions of well educated young Germans and Turkish immigrants how integration in Germany could work? How do these immigrants react in everyday situations which are evaluated differently in Turkey and Germany? Based on intensive interviews and a compulsive questionnaire survey this book offers insights how Germans and immigrants think about integration, what images they hold about each other and how they would deal with intercultural dilemmas themselves. The study shows, that successful integration is not only linked to attitudes but strongly relies on the social competences and intercultural knowledge of the people involved. The behaviour of the interviewed Germans and Turkish immigrants can't be distinguished in most everyday situations, however the reflections on the situation clearly show the different experiential background of these groups. Only in a few aspects of their lives, the immigrants clearly make a point that they want to be different to Germans – exactly these aspects seem to be central indicators for Germans for the immigrants' commitment to integrate in the German society.>
