The five books of Hegesippus, a Christian writer from the second century, are lost. Only a few fragments have survived. These stand out due to a specific interest in the relatives of Jesus. Hegesippus reports, e.g., that James, Jesus’ brother, was thrown down from the top of the temple, then stoned, and finally clubbed to death. He also tells that the Emperor Domitian interrogated two grandsons of the Lord’s brother Judas. Furthermore, he deduces the heresies of his own time from a certain Thebutis, who began to corrupt the church because, instead of him, a cousin of Jesus was appointed as bishop.>
