Monica Blackmun Visonà is Associate Professor in theSchool of Art and Visual Studies of the University of Kentucky,USA, where she teaches courses on African art and architecture, andart historical methods. The principle author of A History of Artin Africa (2000, 2008), she has also published ConstructingAfrican Art Histories for the Lagoons of Côted'Ivoire (2010), and contributed articles to ArtBulletin and African Arts. She is currently researchingthe artists of the western Akan peoples for a museumexhibition.
Gitti Salami is Associate Professor of World Art Historyat Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland, USA. In a decade ofextensive field research in south-eastern Nigeria she has publishednumerous articles on Yakurr culture in African Arts and CriticalInterventions: Journal of African Art History and VisualCulture. She has been awarded a Fulbright-Hays DDRA fellowshipand a grant from the West African Research Association (WARA), andhas held resident fellowships at the Smithsonian Institution andthe University of East Anglia, UK. A forthcoming monograph examinescontemporary Yakurr art genres from a postcolonial theoreticalstandpoint.
