This book provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of the art in 2D MoS2 materials synthesis, properties, and mimics of various applications. It covers a brief history of MoS2, its origin, properties, and applications in various fields such as optoelectronics, nanoelectronics, catalysis, energy storage and generation, nano-lubricants, etc. The book focuses on novel synthesis approaches of bulk and nano-MoS2. It includes various innovative characterization techniques, different approaches to surface functionalization, strengths, and limitations of these materials along with their different properties. Additionally, it addresses the enhancing the properties of the materials using heterostructure formation with other materials. The topics covered in the book are of vital importance in a wide range of modern and emerging layered materials employed in most industries, academics, healthcare, food, environment, and research institutes. The book brings together numerous experts in the field of MoS2 on novel synthesis, usual properties, and applications of this modern material to address fundamental issues prevailing in this thematic domain. This book is recommended for physics, Chemistry, materials science and engineering departments and as a reference for researchers in the field.

Prof. Dr. Dattatray J. Late obtained a B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degree in Physics, Materials Science and Nanotechnology from Savitribai Phule Pune University, formerly the University of Pune (India), in 2008. He was awarded the DST Postdoctoral Fellowship in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at JNCASR Bengaluru under Prof. C. N. R. Rao and then IUSSTF postdoctoral fellowship (2010) at Northwestern University (USA) under Prof. V. P. Dravid. He was then awarded the highly prestigious Ramanujan Fellowship (2013) and a Young Research Scientist Career research Award (2014) by the Science and Engineering Research Board (Government of India) at the CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune (India). He is the recipient of the INUP Best Project Award (2016) from the IITB and the Top Peer Reviewer Award given by the Publons in recognition of his journal review work for 2019–2022. Currently working as Visiting Professor of Physics at Federal University of Lavras, Lavras, Brazil. He was elected as a fellow of the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences in October 2020, a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) London, UK, in December 2020 and fellow of International Society for development and sustainability (FISDS) in March 2024. He has filed 20 patent applications and has authored more than 270 research papers with > 21,000 citations in international journals with current h index of 65 and i10 index 200. He has authored four scientific books. He is an Associate editor of AIP Advances (USA) and also serves on the editorial boards of various scientific journals.

Prof. Chandra Sekhar Rout is a full professor at the Centre for Nano and Material Sciences (CNMS), Jain University. Before joining CNMS, He was a DST-Ramanujan fellow at IIT Bhubaneswar, India (2013–2017). He received his B.Sc. (2001) and M.Sc. (2003) degrees from Utkal University and his Ph.D. from JNCASR, Bengaluru (2008), under the supervision of Prof. C. N. R. Rao, Bharat Ratna. His research interests include preparing and characterizing 2D layered materials and their hybrids for chemical sensors and biosensors, supercapacitors and energy storage devices, field emitters, and electronic devices. He has authored more than 200 research papers in international journals and edited six books.
