Seit Dezember 1996 gibt es das Begriffsstudio. Das Begriffsstudio ist ein kuratiertes Wörterbuch, aber auch Listengedicht, es taugt als Titelsammlung, als Lektüretagebuch, als Studio, in dem das Verhältnis von Glossar und Kommentar untersucht wird. Diese eigenwillige Sammlung sprachlicher Phänomene wurde jahrelang per Post, später per E-Mail an eine Gruppe sogenannter Abonnentinnen und Abonnenten verschickt. Im Jahr 2001 sind die ersten 1.000 Begriffe in der edition sutstein erschienen; dieses Buch ist lange vergriffen. Inzwischen – nach 25 Jahren – fehlen nur noch wenige Einträge, bis die Zahl 5.000 erreicht ist. Unter begriffsstudio.de sind einige Begriffe mit Kommentaren versehen, doch die Mehrzahl steht für sich selbst. Die Buchveröffentlichung liefert hier auf unterschiedliche Weise Kontext nach: in Form von Quellenangaben, assoziativen Kommentaren, Definitionen, Übersetzungen, flüchtigen Gedichten, sprachwissenschaftlichen Betrachtungen, sehr Shorten Stories und Mikro-Essays.
Monika Rinck übersetzt mit Orsolya Kalász aus dem Ungarischen, kooperiert mit Musiker*innen und Komponist*innen und lehrt an der Universität für angewandte Kunst in Wien.

The Begriffsstudio was started in December 1996. It is a curated dictionary and a list poem. It serves equally well as a collection of titles, a reading diary, or a studio in which the relationship between glossary and commen- tary can be explored. For years, this idiosyncratic collection of linguistic phenomena was sent by post—then later by email—to a group of ”subscribers.“ In 2001, the first 1,000 terms were published by edition sutstein, but this book has been out of print for a long time. Now, after 25 years, the number of entries is just a few short of 5,000. On the begriffsstudio.de site, some of the terms are furnished with comments, but most of them stand alone. The book version provides context here in a variety of forms, with source references, associative comments, definitions, translations, brief poems, philological observations, very short stories, and micro essays. Monika Rinck translates texts from Hungarian together with Orsolya Kalász, collaborates with musicians and composers, and teaches at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
