A comprehensive review of analytical signal processing techniquesapplied to power systems and power quality applications.
This reference book is unique in addressing time-varyingwaveform and harmonic distortions. It details many differentapproaches, pooling cutting edge material from university lecturersand practising power engineers to provide a wide spectrum ofexpertise.
Divided into clear sections, the book discusses a range oftopics including...
* current and voltage variations;
* standards and measurement issues;
* advanced techniques such as spectral, time-frequency,probabilistic;
* and further methods, such as independent componentanalysis, and fuzzy logic.
Case studies, real world data and examples (including basicapplication examples and sample waves from industrial sites)supplement the theory and demonstrate the methods shown.
With extensive appendices in addition, this book is of greatvalue to power systems, utility, maintenance and instrumentationengineers. It is also a useful source of information forresearchers and consultants, university professors and graduatestudents in power systems and power quality areas.

Professor Paulo F. Ribeiro, Calvin College, Grand Rapids,Michigan, 49546, USA
Professor Ribeiro is professor of Engineering at CalvinCollege, Michigan. He has been involved with the application ofadvanced signal processing, applied to power quality and powersystems in general, for the past fifteen years. For the past sixyears he has chaired the IEEE Task Force on Probabilistic Aspectsof Harmonics. In 1994 he proposed the use of wallets to powerquality applications; this has been followed by many people and hasgenerated much research, several Masters and a PhD Thesis. Dr.Ribeiro is active in the IEEE, CIGRE and IEC working groups onpower quality, and is a Registered Professional Engineer in theState of Iowa.
