Marita Rainsborough lehrt als Privatdozentin am Institut für Philosophie und Kunstwissenschaft der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg und am Romanischen Seminar der Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. Sie ist assoziiertes Mitglied am Centre of Philosophy University of Lisbon (CFUL) und Mitherausgeberin der Zeitschrift 'Estudos Kantianos'. Ihr Forschungsschwerpunkt bezieht sich – vom Konzept der interkulturellen Philosophie ausgehend – auf Schnittstellen zwischen zeitgenössischer französischer und afrikanischer Philosophie und dem Erbe der klassischen deutschen Philosophie von Kant und Hegel.
