This book will look at the past ten years of Lisa Oppenheim’s artistic practice. Oppenheim’s work which, while rooted in photographic processes, encompasses many other media including textiles, installation and moving image work. Her subjects range from documents of art looted and lost or destroyed by the Nazi regime, to photographic examinations of different species of trees to more a more recent project that produces a speculative portrait of the Luxembourgish-American artist and curator Edward Steichen. The merging of technique and material with historical and social content is a throughline throughout these different bodies of work.
Lisa Oppenheim lives and works in New York City and holds degrees from Brown University, Bard College and the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten. She is represented by Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in New York and Los Angeles and The Approach in London.
