Sam Pickering, best known as the inspiration for the teacher in Dead Poets Society, is Professor of English at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. He is the author of eighteen books, including Walkabout Year: Twelve Months in Australia (University of Missouri Press) and Letters to a Teacher.
