Providing a comprehensive overview of the modelling, analysis andsimulation of mobile radio channels, this book gives a detailedunderstanding of fundamental issues and examines state-of-the-arttechniques in mobile radio channel modelling. It analyses severalmobile fading channels, including terrestrial and satelliteflat-fading channels, various types of wideband channels andadvanced MIMO channels, providing a fundamental understanding ofthe issues currently being investigated in the field.
Important classes of narrowband, wideband, and space-timewireless channels are explored in detail with descriptions ofefficient simulation methods for mobile radio channels beingcentral. Strong emphasis is placed on the detailed origin of thepresented channel models and a high degree of mathematical unity isconveyed. Using the described channel models, the reader canevaluate the performance of wireless communication systems underpropagation conditions which are typical for multipath channels invarious environments.
* Introduces the fundamentals of stochastic and deterministicchannel models
* Explores the modelling and simulation of both wideband andnarrowband mobile radio channels as well as several classes of MIMOchannels
* Describes general concepts including geometrical, reference andsimulation models
* Discusses several methods for the modelling of given Doppler, delay, and angular profiles
* Elaborates on methods for the design, analysis, and realisationof efficient channel simulators
* Examines techniques for the development of fast channelsimulators
* Provides links for downloading MATLAB¯®,programs enabling the simulation and analysis of the mobile fadingchannels models presented, on the companion website (www.wiley.com/go/paetzold)

He received the Dipl.-Ing. and Dr.-Ing. degrees in electricalengineering from Ruhr-University Bochum, Bochum, Germany, in 1985and 1989, respectively, and the habil. degree in communicationsengineering from the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg,Hamburg, Germany, in 1998.
From 1990 to 1992, he was with ANT Nachrichtentechnik GmbH,Backnang, Germany, where he was engaged in digital satellitecommunications. From 1992 to 2001, he was with the Department ofDigital Networks at the Technical University Hamburg-Harburg. Since2001, he has been a full professor of mobile communications withthe University of Agder, Grimstad, Norway. He is author of thebooks "Mobile Radio Channels - Modelling, Analysis, andSimulation" (in German) (Wiesbaden, Germany: Vieweg, 1999)and "Mobile Fading Channels" (John Wiley & Sons,2002) and "Mobile Radio Channels, 2nd Edition" (JohnWiley & Sons, 2011). His current research interests includemobile radio communications, especially multipath fading channelmodelling, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, channelparameter estimation, and coded-modulation techniques for fadingchannels.
