Über Autor(innen)

Immanuel Ness ist Professor für Geschichte am Brooklyn College an der City University New York und Autor einer Vielzahl von Arbeiten über Widerstand und soziale Bewegungen aus einer historischen und vergleichenden Perspektive. Sein Buch Einwanderer, Vereinigungen und der Arbeitsmarkt der Vereinigten Staaten (Temple, 2005) ist in der 5. Auflage. Im Jahr 2005 erhielt sein 4 Bände umfassendes Werk: Enzyklopädie der amerikanischen sozialen Bewegungen die Auszeichnung als hervorragendes Nachschlagewerk von der American Library Association. Das Werk wurde zum besten Nachschlagewerk des Jahres 2005 durch das Library Journal gewählt. Er erhielt Auszeichnungen und Anerkennung für seine anderen Nachschlagewerke unter anderem Enzyklopädie der dritten Parteien in Amerika. Er ist Herausgeber des quartalsweise erscheinenden peer-review, Working USA: Das Journal für Arbeit und Gesellschaft (Blackwell).

Ness wurde eingeladen, um überall auf der Welt auf zahlreichen akademischen Konferenzen, so auch auf der American Political Science Association, zu sprechen und wurde oft gebeten, vor Niedriglohnarbeitern, Immigranten, in Arbeitercentern, auf Konferenzen und an Universitäten in den Vereinigten Staaten und im Ausland zu sprechen. Immanuel Ness is Professor of History at Brooklyn College, City University of New York, and the author of numerous works on resistance and social movements from a historical and comparative perspective.His Immigrants, Unions, and the U.S. Labor Market (2005) is now in its fifth printing. In 2005, his 4-volume work: Encyclopedia of American Social Movements received an Outstanding Reference Source award from the American Library Association, and the work was selected as best reference for 2005 from Library Journal. He has received awards and acclaim for his other reference works, including Encyclopedia of Third Parties in America. He is editor of the peer-review quarterly journal, Working USA: The Journal of Labor and Society (Wiley-Blackwell).
Ness has been invited to speak throughout the world and at numerous academic conferences, including the American Political Science Association, and frequently invited to speak on low-wage labor, immigrants, and workers centers at conferences and universities in the US and abroad. He is founder of the Lower East Side Community Labor Organization, recipient of a Council of the City of New York Proclamation in May 2001. He has worked with the State Attorney General's Office on creating the Code of Conduct for the Greengrocery Industry. Focusing on workers, his current research examines global migrant labor in the US. Ness is completing a book Chained Migration: New Corporate Despotism and Worker Resistance.
