August Friedrich Müller (1684-1761) was Professor of Philosophy at Leipzig from 1731.Like his teacher Andreas Rüdiger he was an independent exponent of Thomasianism. In the 18th century he was considered to be a first class scholar and founder of a whole ‘philosophical school’. Even Immanuel Kant was influenced by his philosophy. Müller’s principal work, his introduction to the philosophical sciences, developed from individual pieces which formed the basis of his lectures. These writings were so successful, especially among students, that Müller collected them into a single work which was first published in 1728 and appeared in the second enlarged and improved edition reprinted here in 1733. The first part covers logic and physics, the second metaphysics, ethics and politics, the third natural and international law.
