The essentiality of selenium (Se) is well recognized for animals and microbes. The importance of Se though documented for crops, however the essentiality aspect is still under consideration. Selenate, selenite, elemental Se and selenide, nano Se role for crops life cycle is being explored. Surprisingly, a concrete reference book is lacking that will address Se role in agriculture tracing it's journey from arable soil to spoon via crop's response (physiological, molecular, metabolomics, transcriptomics etc.) to field scale application. Moreover, the importance of Se in agriculture will be the area of prime focus with topics like Se's role in biotic, abiotic stress, biofortification under the era of globally operating climate change regime. Additionally, the contribution of Se in post-harvest phase will be given an equal importance to illustrate Se's role as well as the toxicological aspect too. In short the main challenge associate with Se it's marginal difference between beneficial /essentiality and toxicity (environmental health also) will be theme of this book with sustainable developmental goal oriented approach. Eminent researchers (early career, mid and established) across the globe will enrich this volume with their contribution and thus make this title emerged aa a valuable document for student, research scholars, faculty members and policy makers in coming years.

Dr. Debojyoti Moulick, currently working as a Project Research Associate-I at RKMVERI (Deemed University), Narendrapur Campus. Prior to this, Dr. Moulick has worked as a Research Associate (DBT-RA) and Post-Doc Fellow, Assam University, Silchar, India. In 2018 he bagged the prestigious Research Associateship (DBT-RA) award from the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. He is Graduate in Microbiology and a Post-Graduate in Biotechnology. He was awarded M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Science by University of Kalyani, West Bengal, India. He availed Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) from the Ministry of Environment and Forest for supporting his Ph.D. research. Before joining M.Phil., he worked on gas hydrates and geochemical exploration in the Geochemistry Division of KDMIPE of ONGC in Dehradun, India. In 2018, Dr. Moulick's research work was recognized by the Department of Science and Technology (Govt. of India) in Vigyan Prasar (India Science Wire).

Dr. Shuvasish Choudhury is an Associate Professor of Plant Science at Assam University, Silchar, India. He completed his post-graduation in 2003 and Ph.D. in 2009 from Assam University, Silchar, India and thereafter did his post-doctoral research on miRNA and metabolomics from Oklahoma State University, USA. He was awarded the Fast Track Young Scientist Award in 2012 by SERB, Govt. of India, Overseas Associateship in 2013 by DBT, Govt. of India, and Young Botanist Award in 2010 by Indian Botanical Society. He was recognized as world's 2% scientist by Stanford University, USA, and Elsevier in 2023-24. He has published more than 80 research papers and reviews in various high impacted journals with almost 3300 (google scholar) and 2000 (SCOPUS) citations. His research interest largely involves the understanding the molecular physiology of abiotic stress responses, metabolomics, and stress mitigation strategies through nutrient management and sustainable use of bioresources such as biochar.
