This textbook provides knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI), wireless communications, and cellular networks. It covers AI techniques such as unsupervised learning, supervised learning, reinforcement learning, deep learning, and 6G technologies like massive MIMO, open RAN, and more. Readers of the book will gain insights into the relationships and synergies between these AI techniques and 6G ecosystems. Additionally, they will develop an understanding of how AI techniques can be instrumental in designing and optimizing 6G systems, and how 6G systems, in turn, can contribute to the creation of new AI applications and use cases.

The textbook will be of interest to students studying artificial intelligence, wireless communications, mobile networks, and electrical engineering, as well as professionals in the field.

Dr. Haesik Kim, an IEEE Senior Member, serves as a project manager at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and an adjunct professor of Ajou University, South Korea. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Lancaster University, UK. Between 2002 and 2006, he worked at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), focusing on physical layer system design and standardization in 3G, SDR, and UWB projects. From 2008 to 2009, he was with NEC UK, contributing to the design and standardization of 4G WiMAX systems. He also held positions as a visiting researcher at the University of Bergen, Norway, and the National Institute of Information and Communications (NICT), Japan.

In 2010, Dr. Kim joined VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, where he currently concentrates on wireless system design and optimization, as well as applications of artificial intelligence. His research has significantly contributed to the academic and industrial aspects of wireless systems, spanning from 3G to 6G. Dr. Kim is the author of several books on AI and wireless systems, including 'Wireless Communications Systems Design' (Wiley), 'Design and Optimization for 5G Wireless Communications' (Wiley-IEEE), and 'Artificial Intelligence for 6G' (Springer).

Currently, he serves as an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics and an associate technical editor of IEEE Communications Magazine. Dr. Kim was a series editor of IEEE Communications Magazine: Design and Implementation of Devices, Circuits, and Systems. Additionally, he served as the vice-chair of the 5G-IA steering board. Dr. Kim has been actively involved as a guest editor, conference chair, session chair, and TPC member in major IEEE journals and conferences such as JSAC, ICC, GC, and VTC.

In various roles—coordinator, project manager, and principal investigator—Dr. Kim has contributed to numerous research projects, including those funded by the EU, ESA, and Finnish national initiatives. His current research interests encompassartificial intelligence, machine learning, 6G communications and networks design, vertical use case designs, and more.
