Many data needed for problem solving in Chemical Engineering are dispersed over the literature. Also, various systems of units are used, often forcing the user to do tedious conversions before a ‘quick calculation’ can be done. In this companion the authors have compiled those data frequently used in transport phenomena and related subjects. Since all data are in S.I. units a rapid access to various calculations is facilitated.

This compendium consists of four parts. The first part provides general information varying from heuristics for quick estimations to S.I. units and their conversions. The second part consists of frequently used mathematics. In addition to general techniques, it contains vectorial and tensorial calculus relevant to hydrodynamics and elementary rheology. The third part is a compendium of transport phenomena and includes data relevant for environmental sciences. A systematic arrangement facilitates its use. In the final part various material properties are presented. Special attention is given to the most common materials: air and water, but also other materials like hydrocarbons, foods and plastics are included.

The comprehensive form of the books facilitates its use for students, scientists and professionals.

Weitere Infos & Material

Dr Camiel Janssen is an associate professor at the department of Chemical Engineering of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He obtained his Master degree from Groningen University and his PhD from Delft University of Technology. After a post-doctoral fellowship at UNAM he joined the European Patent Office as an international patent examiner but returned after some time to Mexico to rejoin academia. His main lecturing interest is in transport phenomena and in process design and optimization. His research group focusses on solvent engineering, with a special emphasis on separation technologies. He develops novel solvents such as ionic liquids, biodegradable deep eutectic solvents and switchable SMART solvents, that can change from hydrophobic to hydrophilic for instantaneous liquid-liquid extractions.

Professor Léon Janssen is emeritus professor in Transport Phenomena at the University of Groningen. He is a graduate from Delft University and he has been visiting faculty at University of Delaware (USA), Harbin Institute of Technology (PRC), InstituteTechnology Bandung, Universitas Parahiangan and Universitas Sam Ratulangi (Indonesia). He is a member of the Royal Netherlands Society of Arts and Sciences, an officer in the Knighthood of Orange and Nassau and a fellow of the Plastics and Rubber Institute. He was Chairman of the EFChE Working party on Non-Newtonian Fluid processing and member of the Scientific Board of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering. He has supervised the work of 31 PhD students at Groningen, published 163 peer reviewed journal articles and 7 scientific books. He has been member of academic assessment committees in the Netherlands, Belgium and Australia. His main research activities were on reactive extrusion, bioplastics from starch and product engineering.
