[George III. of Anhalt: Eucharistic Works]
George III. of Anhalt (1507-1553) is an important figure for the Reformation in Central Germany: Being both a ruling prince and a clergyman, he inaugurated the Reformation in Anhalt-Dessau in 1534, played an important role within the Reformation in Brandenburg and served as Protestant Bishop of Merseburg from 1544 on. George represents an original approach to ecclesiastical reforms, which very much looks back on the tradition of the church. Both George and his theology cannot be described along the usual confessional lines – which may be one reason why George became even more important to the church in Anhalt after his death. This volume presents the first scholarly edition of major writings of George.
