David Hodgkinson

David is a partner at HodgkinsonJohnston, an Australian aviation and aerospace law firm. David is also an associate professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Western Australia. Previously he was special counsel (aviation) at national Australian law firm Clayton Utz. Aviation clients include international and domestic carriers, private operators, airports and international aviation-­related organisations. David has been listed in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific as a ‘leading individual’ for aviation.

David was formerly Director of Legal Services at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the organisation of the world’s airlines, based in Montreal and Geneva. David holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (First Class Honours) and Bachelor of Laws and Master of Philosophy degrees. David was also a postgraduate fellow at Columbia University in New York City. Earlier in my career David was Senior Legal Research Officer at the High Court of Australia where David worked mostly for Justice Sir William Deane.

David is the co-­author of the book Global Climate Change: Australian Law and Policy (2008), the standard Australian text on climate change law, and the general editor of the loose­leaf service Australian Climate Change Law and Policy, both published by LexisNexis. David has also written numerous refereed journal articles, book chapters, monographs and opinion pieces on aviation law, and spoken at (and convened) conferences on aviation law around the world.

Rebecca Johnston

Rebecca is a partner at HodgkinsonJohnston. She is also an adjunct lecturer in aviation law at the University of Notre Dame Australia, School of Law. Rebecca previously worked as a lawyer in Corporate Advisory and Aviation at national Australian law firm Clayton Utz. She is also a delegate to the National Committee of the Aviation Law Association of Australia and New Zealand.

Rebecca specialises in aviation and aerospace law and commercial and corporate transactional work. She advises Australian and international clients on a wide range of aviation matters including legislative and regulatory matters, sale and purchase of aircraft and safety and security issues.

Rebecca is admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor in both the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the High Court of Australia. She is also admitted to practice law in New York. Rebecca completed Law (Honours) / Arts (Politics & International Relations) degrees at the University of Notre Dame Australia. She studied in Washington DC while undertaking a congressional internship on Capitol Hill.

Together, David and Rebecca are editors of Aviation and Climate Change Law & Policy, produced in conjunction with US law firm Condon & Forsyth, and the Aviation Law Association of Australia and New Zealand's Aviation Briefs.
