This book offers an excellent overview of the current applications of PET/MR imaging. Detailed information is provided on both its principal oncologic applications and its most important non-oncologic applications, such as assessment of cardiac disease, neurodegenerative brain imaging, and imaging of inflammatory disease. In addition, the future of PET/MR imaging is closely scrutinized, highlighting the anticipated major advances in the diagnostic value of hybrid imaging, the emerging role of PET/MR imaging in monitoring response in patients receiving targeted drug therapy, and progress toward the development of new tracers. An individual chapter is also devoted to pediatric imaging. The editors and authors are all well-known specialists in the field, with high levels of expertise in clinical applications and excellent publication records. The authors and editors represent both fields of hybrid imaging, in terms of nuclear medicine and radiology as to guarantee presentation of expertise and knowledge from both “worlds”. The book will be of value for all residents and consultants in radiology and nuclear medicine who have a dedicated interest in hybrid imaging.

Lala Umutlu PD Dr. med. graduated from Heinrich-Heine Universität in Düsseldorf, Germany in 2006. She was trained in radiology at the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology and Neuroradiology at the University Hospital Essen. After receiving her habilitation (Venia legendi) on ultra-highfield whole-body MR imaging in 2013, her focus of scientific research interest expanded by hybrid molecular imaging, with a main focus on PET/MRI in oncology and malignancies of the female pelvis in particular. Dr. Umutlu serves as the Vice Chair of the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology and Neuroradiology of the University Hospital Essen as well as the Head of the Clinical PET/MRI and the Ultrahighfield research unit. As a member of various societies including the European Society of Radiology and a faculty member of the European Society for Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Medicine and Biology, she is also involved in training programs on PET/MRI and female oncologic MR imaging.

Herrmann, Ken Prof. Dr. graduated from Charité Universitätsmedizin in Berlin, Germany in 2004 including stays at the Universite de Lausanne, Universidad Austral de Chile in Valdivia, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Herrmann was trained in nuclear medicine at Technische Universität München under the guidance of Professor Markus Schwaiger. Dr. Herrmann received an executive MBA of the University of Zürich. Since 2011, he has been a faculty member of the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). In addition, Dr. Herrmann served from 2012 to 2016 as Vice Chair of Nuclear Medicine at Universitätsklinikum Würzburg. In 2016 he was appointed Chair of Nuclear Medicine at Universitätsklinikum Essen, Germany. Dr. Herrmann’s research focuses on hybrid molecular imaging including PET/CT and PET/MRI and its clinical applications, on radionuclide theranostics, and on PET-based response assessment to oncologic therapies.
