Maximilian Hendler (* 1939) received his doctorate in Byzantine and Slavic studies and Indo-European languages and was a member of the faculty of the University's Institute for Slavic Studies until 2002. Interested in music from all over the world, Alfons Dauer drew Hendler further into the world of jazz and influenced the focus of his research, which is primarily on the development of jazz.
