„Vigiliae und Notturno“ ist der siebente Band der Gesamtausgabe, der Heideggers „Schwarzen Heften“ gewidmet ist. Er enthält „Werkstattaufzeichnungen“, wie der Philosoph diese Texte nennt, die er zwischen 1952 und 1957 in drei Wachstuchhefte eingetragen hat. Die Titel „Vigiliae I und II“ sowie „Notturno“ erinnern an die Nacht, in der der Denker aufmerksam wacht, um wahrzunehmen und festzuhalten, was sich ereignet. Thinking focuses on itself while at the same time sensitively registering important events such as the earth orbit of the first Soviet "Sputnik" satellite. The style of the notebooks approaches that "serenity" that plays such an important role in Heidegger's late thought. In this volume, then, Heidegger's thinking and writing is at the height of his mastery.
