The author Stefan von der Heide, born in 1959, acquired the necessary basics for his present work during his apprenticeship as an orthopaedic shoemaker. Shortly after receiving a master craftsman certificate for shoemakers in 1993, he began with the first reconstruction of historial shoes. For some years now, his workplace has been an artisan’s workshop set in the picturesque courtyard of the “Altes Schloss” (Old Castle) in Neustadt an der Aisch (Bavaria).
