Joseph Haydn komponierte 21 Streichtrios für zwei Violinen und Violoncello, wovon jedoch drei Werke verschollen sind. Diese kammermusikalischen Kleinode, die nicht oft in den Konzertprogrammen auftauchen, stecken voller Überraschungen und bereiten viel Spielfreude. Auf Basis der Haydn-Gesamtausgabe, die ebenfalls im G. Henle Verlag erschienen ist, wurden die überlieferten 18 Streichtrios Haydns in zwei praktischen Bänden aufgelegt. Der erste Band enthält die Trios Hob. V:1–8 und 10–13. Das Vorwort dieser Urtextausgabe liefert wertvolle Informationen zur Entstehungsgeschichte der Trios. Darüber hinaus finden sich hier zahlreiche aufführungspraktische Erläuterungen, etwa zur Ausführung der Verzierungen.
