This book describes basic physics and the recent advancement of carbon-based superconductors (CBSCs), such as diamond, graphite, graphene, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and others. The small mass of carbon atoms provides high phonon frequency, high Debye temperature, and chances to high superconducting transition temperature (Tc). Individual materials also provide different mechanisms and chances to high Tc. Consequently, it is highly expected that CBSCs will open the door to high-Tc superconductivity, for example, CuO2-based SCs.

Junji Haruyama is an associated professor at Aoyama Gakuin University, Faculty of Science and Technology, Material Science course. He was graduated from WASEDA University (Tokyo, Japan) at 1985. Right after the graduation, he entered NEC Corporation and studied basic physics of ultra-high-speed compound semiconductor transistors and also quantum devices until 1994. He got PhD (Physics) by those famous results from WASEDA University at 1996. During 1995-1997, he worked with University of Toronto and Ontario Lightwave research center as a visiting scientist for study of quantum phenomena. Since 1997, he has worked with Aoyama Gakuin University as an associated professor until now.

During this term, he was a visiting professor and principal researcher of many famous organizations. He has peer-review publications over 100 and 5 patents, books over 27, and also invited talks over 120. He has been honored by Japanese government’s (JST & JSPS) famous grants over 20 and a principal researcher of Japanese government’s big projects over 10. He has been also a referee of Japanese government projects over 5 and international Journals over 30, and a member of international committees (organizer, adviser, chairman) over 15 conferences.
