George Alexander Elliott (1901-1988) came to the University of Toronto in 1946 as a Professor of Economics, having previously taught at the Universities of Manitoba, Chicago, and Alberta. In 1944-5 he was a Commissioner of the Royal Commission on Co-operatives, and beginning in 1947 he served as Managing Editor of the Canadian Journal of Economics and Political Science. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Bureau of Economic Research and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
