Arthur Elgort wurde 1940 geboren und ist in New York City aufgewachsen. Er besuchte die Stuyvesant High School und das Hunter College, wo er anfangs Malerei studierte bevor er zur Fotografie wechselte. Unter Elgorts zahlreichen Büchern befinden sich Personal Fashion Photographs (1983) und der Bestseller Models Manual, der während des Booms der Supermodels 1994 veröffentlicht wurde. Elgort hat außerdem bei zwei Filmen Regie geführt: Texas Tenor: The Illinois Jacquet Story (1992) und dem Dokumentarfilm Colorado Cowboy (1993), der den legendären Cowboy Bruce Ford porträtierte und 1994 die Auszeichnung Beste Kamera beim Sundance Film Festival gewann. 2011 erhielt Elgort den Board of Directors' Special Tribute Award des Council of Fashion Designers of America.

Arthur Elgort was born in 1940 and raised in New York City. He attended Stuyvesant High School and Hunter College
where he initially studied painting before switching to photography, which he took to naturally. Elgort’s numerous books
include Personal Fashion Photographs (1983) and the bestseller Models Manual, released during the supermodel
boom in 1994. Elgort has also directed two films, Texas Tenor: The Illinois Jacquet Story (1992), and the documentary
Colorado Cowboy (1993) which portrays legendary cowboy Bruce Ford and won the award for Best Cinematography
at the Sundance Film Festival in 1994. In 2011, Elgort received the Board of Directors’ Special Tribute Award from the
Council of Fashion Designers of America.
