When we last left Mukohda, an unfortunate salaryman who got accidentally summoned to another world from modern Japan, he had bought a house in Karelina and staffed it. Now, having finally put his house in order and having secured the safety of his business, Mukohda has found himself free enough to leave his home while he goes out adventuring!

So, Mukohda and familiars are now in the town of Rosenthal in pursuit of meat, meat, more meat, and some violence for Fel and the others to let off a little steam. But what awaits Mukohda in the dungeon so famed for its meat drops it's literally called the 'meat dungeon'? Some new ingredients for a new type of cuisine? A new time-limited business venture? Chapter 1: It’s Time to Depart in Search of Delicious Meat

“This place is really lively...” I couldn’t help but mutter as I took in the voices coming from the line of stalls that were calling for customers.

We’d safely arrived at the town of Rosenthal.

It had taken us 12 days, a little longer than expected since we kept getting sidetracked (mainly so my three familiars could go hunting and let off steam). I’d been told that by carriage, the trip from Karelina to Rosenthal would take around a month, so 12 days was still plenty fast though.

Before we left, the guildmaster for Karelina’s Adventurer’s guild said to me, “I’ll tell Rosenthal’s guild about you, so when you get there make sure you check in.” So I went to the guild first thing, and Rosenthal’s guildmaster (he looked like a really kind and pudgy middle-aged man, perfect for the guildmaster of a town with the meat dungeon) was waiting for me with an incredible welcome planned.

Apparently I was the first S-ranked adventurer to come in years.

He was rubbing his hands together as he told me right off the bat that there was a request he’d like me to take care of, but since I’d just arrived and hadn’t even decided where to stay, I had to ask him to talk to me about it later.

After the Adventurer’s guild, I went to the Merchant’s guild and rented a house as usual. The one I got this time was an 8LDK that used to belong to a retired high ranking adventurer. It was close to the center of town, and it was also close to the meat dungeon’s entrance, so it was a good property.

With my living situation settled, we decided to go out on the town since there was still daylight left. And boy, the market was exactly what I’d expect out of the meat dungeon town. There were tons of stalls out, with people everywhere advertising their offerings and trying to attract customers, and I could smell and hear cooking meat from every direction. Given that, Fel and Dora-chan were looking around all over the place, and even Sui was out of its usual bag and doing the same on Fel’s back.

“Hey bro, you look cool! Come try our meat! It’s delicious, we use a secret sauce~!” An older guy who was grilling skewers in a stall called out to me.

The guy was real confident, but the savory smell coming off his grill backed it up.

«Hey.» Then came Fel’s telepathy.

“You want to eat this, right?”

«Indeed.» Fel’s eyes were glinting predatorily and they were locked on to the skewers the old guy was cooking; it was obvious.

Sui was also jiggling excitedly on top of Fel’s back.

“Then, would ten skewers for each of you, so 30 skewers in total, be fine?”

«Mm, I want more.»

“You don’t want to try out any other stalls?”

«Of course I do. But only ten skewers from here will not even tide me over.»

Then I guess 20 each for Fel and Sui, and ten for Dora-chan? The little dragon wouldn’t have room for other stalls if he ate more than that.

“Then give me 50 skewers, please.”

“Oh, 50?! Sure thing! 50 skewers will be 3 silver. I’ve only got 30 skewers ready, so please wait a little and I’ll get the other 20 grilled up real quick!” I handed 3 silver to the guy and took the 30 skewers that were ready.

All three of my familiars were staring intently at the skewers I had in hand.

“Sorry, can I borrow some space behind your cart?”

“Sure, go ahead.” There was some empty space behind the guy’s cart that would be perfect, so I made use of it to feed Fel and the others.

I removed the skewers and served the meat to the three of them in their bowls, and they greedily chowed down.

“So you’re feeding it to your familiars. You sure treat them nice.”

“They work hard, after all. I can at least give them good food.”

“Hahaha! You’re a good master, aren’t you bro?”

“It’d be nice if they think so. Ah, can I get one more skewer?”

“Sure thing. Here. It’s fresh off the grill. You bought a lot so this one’s on me.”

“Wow, thanks!” He also gave me the other 20 skewers that he’d just finished, and I served them to Fel and Sui.

Then, I bit into my own savory-smelling skewer.

“So good!” I had no idea how he made it, but the sauce was similar to BBQ sauce, and the large amount of meat had the perfect texture. Every time I bit into the succulent, fatty meat, the juices flowed freely into my mouth.

“Right?! They’re my pride and joy!” The guy replied happily after my amazed shout.

«Indeed. These are quite delicious.»

«Yeah. Charcoal-grilled meat really is amazing!»

«It was great!» All three of my familiars quickly and easily finished off the meat, as if it wasn’t even a snack to them.

“You guys eat so fast.”

«Hmph, I am nowhere near full. I can eat more.»

«Me too.»

«Sui can eat more too.»

“Yeah, yeah, I know.”

«Still, what kind of meat is this? I believe this is my first time eating it...»

«Hm? Isn’t this orc?» Dora-chan thought it was orc, which had been my assumption. It tasted like pork, so I figured it had to be.

«No, this is not orc. I feel like the fat is lighter than an orc’s.» Now that he mentioned it, I thought that Fel might be right.

I looked down at my half-eaten skewer.

“Sorry, what kind of meat is this?”

“This? It’s dungeon pork. It’s something you can only get from the meat dungeon, you know! Well, if you go down to the middle floors they drop like crazy though. Gahaha!”

“In this town it’s not that rare, but it looks like this is your first time here, bro, so there’s a bunch of different dungeon pork dishes for you to try! This is the only place where you can eat fresh dungeon pork, after all!”

Fel, after hearing what the old guy said, muttered with blazingly motivated eyes, “Ohh?”

We left the guy’s stall behind and continued exploring the row of food stalls.

Just as he claimed, there were lots of stalls selling all sorts of dishes using dungeon pork. It was probably a really popular meat around here since it could be obtained in large amounts from the dungeon. There was a place that sold dungeon pork sausages, and one that served steak too, but skewers were the most popular.

As the title of ‘holy land of food’ implied, each store had their own styles and methods for bringing out flavor.

The kinds of skewers ranged from those seasoned with simple herb salts to the ones marinated in full-on secret sauces like the old guy from before had. Each stall researched and developed its own flavor and used anything from pot herbs to salt-based sauces. I was surprised at how many more varieties there were in this town compared to others. It was like it existed in a different world of cuisine.

There were a lot of actual restaurants too, and all of them were diligently furthering the town’s food culture.

And then you had a bunch of stalls using beef from the dungeons, too. Just like dungeon pork, dungeon beef couldn’t be found anywhere else. Apparently it appeared on a lower level than dungeon pork, but it was still quite common so it was just as popular in this town as the pork.

As for the flavor, it tasted like imported beef. It seemed like it’d be good in a stew or something. My familiars said they liked the dungeon pork better, but we still decided to get at least some beef.

After all, getting meat drops from the dungeon meant that I wouldn’t have to get anything butchered, so I wanted to get as large a variety of meat when we went in as I could.

Just like that, we managed to fill ourselves up while obtaining info on the dungeon.

? ? ? ? ?

“Hm, the meat you cook really is the best I have ever tasted.”

«Yeah. The meat from those stalls yesterday wasn’t bad, but yours is way better. The sauce on this meat just hits different.»

«Master—, the meat is super delicious~!» It wasn’t like I was competing with the stalls from yesterday, but I did decide on some yakiniku rice bowls following the principle, “simple is best.”

All I did was grill up a load of bloody horn-bull meat and coated it with a little store-bought sauce before putting it on top of some freshly steamed rice. I also topped the bowl with some white sesame seeds and an egg yolk. It was a really simple bowl, but it was delicious.
