Gleichfalls bietet die Edition vom ›Grundriß der Historik‹ neben allen Drucken auch die handschriftliche Überlieferung und unveröffentlichte Materialien.

He was a classical philologist, an expert in ancient, modern and contemporary history, active in politics and above all a theoretician of historicism. His ›Historik‹ (Outline of the Principles of History), first published in 1857 and held as a lecture 17 times up to 1882/83, is indisputably still one of the most important texts on the theory of history not only in German scholarly culture. This edition will contain the entire autographic manuscript transmission and the parts of the apographic manuscript for the ›Historik‹ lectures which complete this. In addition to all the publications, the edition of the ›Outline of the Principles of History‹ also contains the manuscript transmission and unpublished material.
