Chilcott's uplifting four-movement setting of the Latin Gloria text will be welcomed by a great many choirs looking for a new concert work. The driving 'Gloria in excelsis Deo' features syncopated rhythms and an upper-voice semi-chorus part in the 'Et in terra pax' section, which can be taken from the main choir. An immediately contrasting 'Domine Deus' set to 3/4 homophony manages to be both tender and majestic. This leads into a warm and lyrical 'Qui tollis', full of long melodic lines that
weave in and out of each other. Finally, the dancing 'Quonium tu solus sanctus' keeps you on your toes with its fast tempo and quick alternations between 3/4 and 6/8, and jubilant D major 'Amen's provide a suitably exhilarating ending.

Über Autor(innen)

Bob Chilcott has been involved with choral music all his life, first as a Chorister and then a Choral Scholar at King's College, Cambridge. Later, he sang and composed music for 12 years with the King's Singers. His experiences with that group, his passionate commitment to young and amateur choirs, and his profound belief that music can unite people, have inspired him both to compose full-time and, through proactive workshopping, to promote choral music
worldwide.
