Carol A. Chapelle is distinguished professor of liberal arts and sciences and professor of TESL/applied linguistics at Iowa State University, USA. Her research explores issues at the intersection of computer technology and applied linguistics. Her books on technology and language include Computer Applications in Second Language Acquisition (2001), English Language Learning and Technology (2003), and Tips for Teaching With CALL (2008, with Joan Jamieson). Her books focusing on language assessment and research methods include Assessing Language Through Computer Technology (2006, with Dan Douglas), Inference and Generalizability in Applied Linguistics (2006, coedited with Micheline Chalhoub-Deville and Patricia Duff), ESOL Tests and Testing (2005, with Stephen Stoynoff), and Building a Validity Argument for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (2008, coedited with Mary K. Enright and Joan Jamieson). She is coeditor of the Cambridge Applied Linguistics series. She is past president of the American Association for Applied Linguistics (2006--7) and former editor of TESOL Quarterly (1999--2004).
