Über Autor(innen)

Joana Bértholo was born in Lisbon, Portugal. An artist at heart, she graduated in fine-arts and design. She then went on to pursue a series of socially engaged projects, while taking literature as her medium of preference. These years travelling, doing voluntary work, and writing on her experience at different projects were what lead her to ask: why do we shy away from collective excellence? Why are groups often self-destructive? Why is it so hard to create together? In a refined and more academic manner, these were the questions that lead her to a PhD in Cultural Studies, from which this book was born.

Meanwhile she has become a prolific published author in her mother language, Portuguese, producing several novels, books of short-stories, theatre plays, books for children and even collecting some awards.
