This treatise on the demography of sub-Saharan Africa contains materials on age and sex composition, fertility, and mortality. The main body of the work consists of case studies on the Republic of the Congo, French-speaking territories, Portuguese territories, the Sudan, and Nigeria. Evidence is described in critical detail, methods of analysis are presented in full; and the reader is given the basis for judging the quality of the estimates.
