Mit steigenden Scheidungszahlen nehmen auch diejenigen Fälle zu, bei denen ein Elternteil dem anderen das gemeinsame Kind zu entfremden und den Kontakt zu vereiteln versucht. Die damit verbundene Zerstörung gewachsener Bindungen führt zur erheblichen Traumatisierung betroffener Kinder und entfremdeter Eltern. Der Zerfall familialer Beziehungen ist eine Wurzel zunehmender gesellschaftlicher Desintegrationserscheinungen (z. B. Jugendgewalt, Sucht-/Leistungsst/ouml;rungen, psychischer und psychosomatischer Langzeitfolgen). Damit entstehen wachsende Herausforderungen für Familienrichter, Rechtsanwälte, Jugendamtsmitarbeiter, Sachverständige, Kinderärzte, Kinder- und Erwachsenenpsychiater, Therapeuten und Verfahrenspfleger. Unter den verschiedenen Erklärungsansätzen und Lösungsversuchen bei Entfremdungsphänomenen hat das PAS-Konzept des amerikanischen Kinderpsychiaters R. A. Gardner sowohl wachsende internationale Anerkennung als auch Kritik gefunden.
Die Konferenzbeiträge möchten zur interdisziplinären Fachdiskussion und zur Erweiterung der familiengerichtlichen Praxis bei Sorgerechts- und Umgangsentscheidungen beitragen sowie die Forschung im Bereich PAS und seiner Folgen für Kinder, Eltern, Großeltern und die Gesellschaft als Ganzes anregen.

With increasing numbers of divorces, there is a rise in high-conflict cases with one parent's attempt to alienate the joint child from the other parent and to sabotage visitations. The concomitant destruction of grown relationships leads to considerable traumatisation of the children thus affected and the alienated parents as well. The break-up of family relations is one root of growing societal destruction phenomena (e.g. youth violence, addiction, performance disorders, psychic and psychosomatic long term consequences). As a result, family judges, lawyers, social workers, evaluators, paediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists and guardians ad litem are confronted with a growing challenge in dealing with such cases. Amongst the various phenomenological theories and attempts at finding solutions here, the PAS concept by the american child psychiatrist R. A. Gardner, M. D. has been finding increasing inter-national attention as well as criticism.
These conference contributions aim at promoting the interdisciplinary discus-sion amongst professionals about alienation in high conflict di-vorce cases. Furthermore, they attempt to extend the range of alternative decisions made in family courts. Finally, they intend to encourage and contribute to research in the field of PAS and its psychological consequences for children, parents, grandparents and the society as a whole.
