In this thesis, UWB sensor networks for distributed detection are considered. Based on mathematical models for communication in IR-UWB networks, application-specific methods and cross-layer algorithms are developed that allow for an optimization of UWB sensor networks for distributed detection. The objective is to achieve maximum detection performance with minimum energy resources and minimum computational complexity. The presented solutions include aspects from signal processing, transceiver design, and resource allocation all adapted to distributed detection.
