This book presents a detailed study of the thermal consolidation behavior of saturated clay from experimental and theoretical aspects, analyzes the thermal consolidation response of saturated clay under the influence of different drainage conditions, confining pressures, temperature paths, and over-consolidation ratios, and carries out theoretical modelling of thermal consolidation based on thermoelasticity theory. The study of thermodynamic properties of clayey soils under temperature load has a wide range of applications in the fields of geothermal resource development, thermal energy storage, and nuclear waste disposal. This book provides an in-depth analysis of the thermal consolidation properties of saturated clay through systematic experimental studies and meticulous theoretical modelling. The relevant experimental results and theoretical analysis methods can provide valuable references for the study of soil thermal properties. This book is intended for graduate students and researchers in related fields such as geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, soil science, as well as design engineers.

Dr. Guangchang Yang received his B.E. degrees in Geological Engineering from China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Beijing, China, in 2013, and the B.E. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, in 2016 and 2020, respectively. Since 2022, Dr. Yang has been in the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Science and Technology Beijing as an associate professor. Dr. Yang focuses on the research of mechanical properties of soil in complex environments. His recent research interests include: constitutive theory of unsaturated soil, multi-field coupling of soil, environmental geotechnical engineering, etc. Since 2018, Dr. Yang has published more than 20 peer-reviewed technical papers in international journals. He has received funding from multiple projects, including sub-projects of the National Key Research and Development Program, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Beijing Natural Science Foundation, and has won two second prizes in natural science at the provincial and ministerial level.

Bing Bai is a professor at the Department of Geotechnical Engineering, School of Civil and Architectural Engineering, Beijing Jiaotong University, member of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League, deputy director of the Higher Education Committee of the China Democratic League, and member of the editorial board of several internationally renowned journals in the field of geotechnical engineering. He has been engaged in research work in the field of traffic geotechnical engineering for a long time, published more than 170 papers in international and domestic academic journals as the first author/corresponding author, and edited 10 academic monographs and textbooks. He won the "Scott Sloan Award for the best paper in 2021" named by members of the Royal Academy of Sciences and was selected into the "top 2% of the world's top scientists" lifetime achievement list/annual achievement list in 2021/2022/2023 released by Stanford University for three consecutive years.
