Aristotle's De Anima has a claim to be the first systematic treatment of issues in the philosophy of mind, and also to be one of the greatest works on the subject. This volume provides an accurate translation of Books II and III, together with some sections of Book I; particular attention has been given to the translation of difficult terms, to help the student of philosophy who does not know Greek. A brief Introduction discusses Aristotle's approach to
his subject, while the Notes provide a continuous philosophical commentary on the text.

Über Autor(innen)

Professor David Walter Hamlyn retired from Birkbeck College, London in 1988, where he had been Head of Classics and the Vice-Master. He was a Lecturer at Jesus College, Oxford, in the 1950s and was the President of the Aristotelian Society from 1977-8. He is a still a member of the Executive of the Royal Institute of Philosophy. He edited by Oxford Journal, Mind from 1972-84 and is a Consulting Editor of the Journal of Medical
Ethics.
