In 2003, she established Yamada Shuori Pillow Research Institute, Co., Ltd. to research sleep posture and developed custom-made orthopedic pillows.She is active in basic and clinical research on sleep posture, pillows, and sleep for special diseases such as cervical spine disease, postural abnormalities (kyphosis), rheumatoid arthritis, and sleep apnea syndrome, in collaboration with researchers in engineering and medicine. She has established the Sleep Posture Study Group, a joint research network with orthopedic surgeons.
