Presenting the policy drivers, benefits and challenges for gridintegration of electric vehicles (EVs) in the open electricitymarket environment, this book provides a comprehensive overview ofexisting electricity markets and demonstrates how EVs areintegrated into these different markets and power systems.
Unlike other texts, this book analyses EV integration inparallel with electricity market design, showing the interactionbetween EVs and differing electricity markets. Future regulatingpower market and distribution system operator (DSO) market designis covered, with up-to-date case studies and examples to helpreaders carry out similar projects across the world.
With in-depth analysis, this book describes:
* the impact of EV charging and discharging on transmission anddistribution networks
* market-driven EV congestion management techniques, for examplethe day-ahead tariff based congestion management scenario withinelectric distribution networks
* optimal EV charging management with the fleet operator conceptand smart charging management
* EV battery technology, modelling and tests
* the use of EVs for balancing power fluctuations from renewableenergy sources, looking at power system operation support, including frequency reserve, power regulation and voltagesupport
An accessible technical book for power engineers andgrid/distributed systems operators, this also serves as a referencetext for researchers in the area of EVs and power systems. Itprovides distribution companies with the knowledge they need whenfacing the challenges introduced by large scale EV deployment, anddemonstrates how transmission system operators (TSOs) can developthe existing system service market in order to fully utilize thepotential of EV flexibility. With thorough coverage of thetechnologies for EV integration, this volume is informative forresearch professors and graduate students in power systems; it willalso appeal to EV manufacturers, regulators, EV marketprofessionals, energy providers and traders, mobility providers, EVcharging station companies, and policy makers.

Professor Qiuwei Wu, Centre for Electric Technology,Department of Electrical Engineering, Technical University ofDenmark, Lyngby
Qiuwei Wu is an assistant professor with the Centre for ElectricTechnology (CET), Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and iscurrently involved in the research of integration of electricvehicles (EVs), integration of wind power, market driven optimaloperation of distribution systems, and the congestion management ofdistribution systems. He is co-work package leader of the firstlarge scale demonstration project related to EV integration intopower systems (WP2 of the EDISON project). Within this he is themain contributor on tasks of EV system architecture design, thepotential of using EVs to provide ancillary services, and networkimpact of EVs on distribution and transmission systems. He has alsoworked on congestion management of distribution systems with largescale EV integration. Professor Wu gave a tutorial on "smartcharging for electric vehicle(EV) fleet operators (FOs) and ICTimplementation using IEC 61850" in the ISGT Europe 2011conference. He contributed a chapter to the large edited bookModeling and Control of Sustainable Power Systems: Towards Smarterand Greener Electric Grids (Springer, 2011).
