African American English (AAE) is a major area of research in linguistics, but until now, work has primarily been focused on AAE as it is spoken amongst the working classes. Tracey L. Weldon is a sociolinguist, specializing in African American Language varieties at the University of South Carolina. She is an Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences, Associate Producer of the documentary 'Talking Black in America', and chair of the LSA Committee on Ethnic Diversity in Linguistics.
