[Reformation or Early Bourgeois Revolution?]
'Reformation' or 'early bourgeois revolution'? Which explanatory model can be said to correspond to the events and structural changes which we typically deal with in the context of "reformation history"? The history of research in this area witnessed a heated discussion of this question in the German-speaking world in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, essentially conducted in line with the demarcations of the Cold War. With the end of the Cold War came the end of this discussion - without a real conclusion. The authors of this volume aim to shed new light on the ways in which the religious life, intellectual developments, and the economic and social upheavals of the late fifteenth and sixteenth centuries were intertwined and interdependent, as well as on their later perception.
