This volume analyzes the conversion of German women to Christian and Muslim movements which both follow a literal sense-orientated interpretation of their Holy scriptures and whose communities show many similarities, with qualitative methods. The focus of the work is the functionality of the conversion; the conversion developes a bunch of positive outcomes or “functions” (Robert K. Merton) for the female converts. Some of them are similar or equal in both religions, some different due to the theological differences and the distinct standing of both religions in German society. The analysis breaks new grounds regarding the research of conversion to literal sense-orientated Christian communities in Germany and Europe. Other than conversion to Islam, this phenomenon was scarcely analysed so far.
