Reviews
“This will serve well both students and scholars of European integration, and practitioners interested in understanding more about EU foreign policy dynamics. … Amadio Viceré’s book is a must-read for all researchers who wish to explore in more depth recent institutional initiatives, such as Mogherini’s EU Global Strategy or the establishment of Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) in Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) by using an original analytical framework that goes beyond the supranational-intergovernmental dichotomy.” (Giulia Tercovich, The International Spectator, Vol. 54 (4), 2019)
“This is a timely and important work of comparative foreign policy with skilful applications of the actions of the High Representative of the EU regarding Kosovo and Ukraine. This excellent book should be read by all interested in foreign policy, international relations, and the EU.” (James Caporaso, University of Washington, Seattle, USA)“Those interested in how the institutional structure introduced by the Lisbon treaty has impacted foreign and security policies could do no better than to start with this book. It clearly explains the role of the EU’s ‘High Representative’ in shaping these policies, and hence European integration.” (Anand Menon, King’s College London, UK)
“This book provides a thorough account of the role of the EU High Representative in European foreign policy. Through rigorous case study analysis and the careful tracing of developments since the Lisbon Treaty ‘s entry into force, Amadio fills a critical gap in the literature on European foreign policy, ina must read by all students and scholars of European integration.” (Nathalie Tocci, University of Tübingen, Germany, Director of the Istituto Affari Internazionali and Special Adviser to EU HRVP Federica Mogherini)
