The changing nature of waged work in contemporary advancedindustrial nations is one of the most significant aspects ofpolitical and economic debate. It is also the subject of intensedebate among observers of gender. Capital Culture exploresthese changes focusing particularly on the gender relations betweenthe men and women who work in the financial services sector. Themultiple ways in which masculinities and femininities areconstructed is revealed through the analysis of interviews withdealers, traders, analysts and corporate financiers.
Drawing on a range of disciplinary approaches, the various waysin which gender segregation is established and maintained isexplored. In fascinating detail, the everyday experiences of menand women working in a range of jobs and in different spaces, fromthe dealing rooms to the boardrooms, are examined. This volume isunique in focusing on men as well as women, showing that for mentoo there are multiple ways of doing gender at work.
